Hello, and welcome to the web-site of St John’s Church Waterbeach. I am the Revd. Pam Thorn, and I am Associate Priest in the parishes of Waterbeach and Landbeach. We are, at the moment, in a vacancy situation, since our last Priest-in-charge left us for another post last October.
Our vision statement is this:
To be a Church where we are:
In order to achieve our vision, we are a team of lay and ordained people, all working hard, especially at the moment as we wait for the process of appointing a new Team Leader (a new priest) to fill that gap.
I am assisted by 2 priests who live in Waterbeach:
Revd. Canon Brian Macdonald-Milne, a former vicar in our parishes, who has a great deal of experience of ministry in Melanesia and this country.
Revd. Dr. Malcolm Brown, a senior member of staff at Church House, Westminster, and a former Principal of a ministry training course.
We also have 2 Lay Ministers: Dr. Ray Gambell, who is also a churchwarden in Landbeach, and Trevor Thorn (my husband) who is largely responsible for the All-Age worship in both our churches.
For many years Paul Cooper has also been a Lay Minister in the parish, but he is now ‘in transition’ between us and Littleport Church, as he and his wife moved to Littleport very recently (January 2012)
We work very closely with the other denominations in our 2 villages, and enjoy the ministry of Lieutenants Kevin and Wendy Brown of the Salvation Army, and Martin Ensall, the new Minister at Waterbeach Baptist Church.
Our Churchwardens, (Jane Williams and Dr. Mike Astley) are assisted in the governance of our church by the PCC, a loyal and supportive group with many skills and talents.
In this vacancy we are endeavouring to keep all our regular and occasional services available, and we are grateful for the help we have been offered by other ministers in this respect.
